President Biden will require all federal government employees and contractors to get vaccinated in an executive order.
CNN reports the loophole allowing unvaccinated employees to frequently test and maintaining social distancing will be closed. Biden will order all federal workers and contractors doing business with the federal government to be vaccinated.
Biden’s new mandate is expected Thursday evening. At the same time, he will also urge all private businesses to follow his lead, as he is set to direct the Labor Department to draft a rule requiring businesses with more than 100 employees to ensure that workers are either vaccinated or regularly tested. Companies could face thousands of dollars in fines per employee if they don’t comply.
According to recent polling, Americans remain slightly in favor of employers leveling vaccine mandates.
A recent Washington Post/ABC poll showed that 52 percent supported businesses requiring employees coming into work to be vaccinated, while 45 percent did not support it.
However, the unvaccinated Americans are stubborn.
Seventy-two percent of the unvaccinated indicated they would rather quit their job than get vaccinated if their employer enacted a vaccine mandate.
The stiffer vaccine mandate is one of the “six-pronged” Biden will introduce on Thursday as the increasing number of Americans consider his handling of the pandemic as poor.
According to the Washington Post \ABC poll, the support for the president’s handling the pandemic has fallen 12 points since April.
Additional proposals to get more Americans vaccinated offered by Biden include protecting vaccinated individuals while keeping schools open. Other items include increasing testing availability, more maks mandates, and improving care for people who contract the virus.
On Wednesday, White House press secretary Jen Psaki previewed Biden’s new proposals during the daily briefing.
When asked if there would be more mitigation and restorative steps that would impact American day-to-day life, she replied, “It depends on if you’re vaccinated or not.”
