REPORT: Biden Leaked Sensitive Intelligence On Chinese Spy Balloon During Campaign Fundraiser

(trendingpoliticsnews) – President Biden reportedly left defense officials stunned when he revealed sensitive intelligence about the Chinese spy balloon incident during a campaign fundraiser on Tuesday evening, according to a report from the New York Times.

In a seemingly unplanned tangent, Biden told donors that Chinese President Xi Jinping was “kept in the dark” on details relating to the unmanned Chinese spy balloon that was shot down off the coast of South Carolina after travelling over several military installations earlier this year. The “sensitive” information was reported to him by the intelligence agencies.

“The reason why Xi Jinping got very upset in terms of when I shot that balloon down with two boxcars full of spy equipment in it is he didn’t know it was there,” Biden told roughly 130 donors guests at the California fundraising event. “No, I’m serious. That’s what’s a great embarrassment for dictators, when they didn’t know what happened.”

Additionally, Biden revealed that the balloon is suspected to have been tracking military installations in Hawaii and Alaska but was blown off course. “That wasn’t supposed to be going where it was,” Biden said of the balloon. “It was blown off course up through Alaska and then down through the United States, and he didn’t know about it,” he added.

U.S. officials were “surprised” that the president opted to reveal “sensitive” information about national security, the New York Times reported.

Biden went on to spill additional intelligence about the nation’s assessment of and strategy relating to China. “What he was really upset about was that I insisted that we reunite the so-called Quad. He called me and told me not to do that because it was putting him in a bind,” the president said of his Chinese counterpart. I said, ‘All we’re doing — we’re not trying to surround you, we’re just trying to make sure the international rules with air and sea lanes remain open.’ And we’re not going to yield to that — on that.”

The commander in chief also told donors “not to worry” about China, adding that the nation has “some real economic difficulties.”

One official told the New York Times that Biden’s remarks accurately reflect the assessment of intelligence agencies regarding the spy balloon incident and China as a whole.

The latest incident came just a day after Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that America does not support Taiwan’s independence during a trip to China, marking a shocking reversal of U.S. policy. “We do not support Taiwan independence. We remain opposed to any unilateral changes to the status quo by either side. We continue to expect a peaceful resolution,” Blinken stated.
