Biden believes the individuals disregarding Congressional subpoenas to testify in front of the January 6th select committee should be prosecuted by the Justice Department.
Reporters asked Biden about those individuals who defied the supeona, citing former President Donald Trump’s executive privilege.
Biden said Trump loyalists should be prosecuted for refusing to appear before the committee investigating the Capitol Hill protest on January 6th.
“I hope that the committee goes after them and holds them accountable,” Biden said.
When asked if they should be prosecuted by the Justice Department, Biden replied, “I do, yes.”
Bidens answer about prosecution contradicts his repeated assertion that the Justice Department would remain independent on issues of prosecution.
“Our Justice Department is going to operate independently on those issues, how to respond to any of that,” Biden told CNN’s Jake Tapper in December 2020.
“I am not going to be telling them what they have to do and don’t have to do,” he continued. “I am not going to be saying, go prosecute, A, B, or C.”
